Aging
(Nursing) Education Area L AHEC provides continuing education programming specifically for healthcare professionals who work with older adults. This programming is directed mainly towards personnel in long term care facilities, but also involves those who work with older adults in hospitals, homes, and communities; including those working in different healthcare disciplines. Area L AHEC provides appropriate educational credit for professionals who deal with the aging population. This credit includes continuing education units (CEUs), nursing home administrator credit (NHA), and adult care home credit (ACH). The AHEC Director of Interdisciplinary Aging Education develops programs based on specific needs identified both during on-site assessment, and through the assistance of the Aging Advisory Committee. Topics covered include care of the older adult, ethical considerations of care, and care of the healthcare provider. Also, Area L AHEC coordinates monthly visits by an interdisciplinary team from UNC-CH to an Interdisciplinary Geriatric Education Center(IGEC) in both Halifax and Northampton counties, and provides assistance with, or referrals for, a wide variety of services relating to the care of the older adult.
