                                               together to reduce health disparities.

The mission of ECHO, the UNC program on Ethnicity, Culture, and Health Outcomes, is to eliminate health status and health outcomes disparities through translatable, evidence-based research, multidisciplinary training and education, and culturally sensitive service to North Carolina communities.

What is the Area L AHEC Center for Community Research?

The Area L AHEC Center for Community Research is a partnership between the North Carolina AHEC Program and the UNC Program on Ethnicity, Culture, and Health Outcomes.  The Center for Community Research will enable communities to:
  • Identify their most pressing health needs
  • Understand the value of research
  • Develop solutions to address the identified health concerns
The partnership will connect UNC faculty and students with community and nonprofit organizations.  It is the hope of the Centers for Community Research to bring together the skills and assets present within every community with academic disciplines and research theories.
  • Increase partnerships with minority communities, organizations, and institutions
  • Educate faculty, students, health professionals, and communities about the relationship between culture, ethnicity, and health
  • Facilitate and support the development of research projects that address racial disparities across the campus
  • Promote a culturally competent health workforce
  • Provide evidence-based academic guidance on the formation of effective public policy
