The nursing education component of Area L AHEC offers individually tailored, on-site education programs at each of the area hospitals. Additionally, guest faculty present programs for all nursing professionals in the area through regularly scheduled regional programs. These programs are developed based on specific needs identified both during on-site assessment, and through the assistance of Area L AHEC's Nursing Task Forces 1 & 2. Educational opportunities also include teleconferencing programs, such as an RN/BSN program which was a collaboration between the UNC-CH Department of Nursing and Area L AHEC region to provide local nurses with an opportunity to obtain an advanced degree. This program was offered from 1998-2001.
As an integral part of its mission, each of
the 9 AHEC centers is committed to promoting educational mobility for
all nurses. North Carolina continues to require more nurses prepared
at the baccalaureate level and above. AHEC-sponsored off-campus degree
programs provide flexible options for working nurses who wish to advance from
RN to the BSN, MSN, and PhD level. Additionally, the state's need for
advanced practice nurses continues to increase making accessibility of these
programs even more important. For more information on educational mobility
options for NC nurses visit the College Foundation of North Carolina
Web site.
