IMPROVING PERFORMANCE IN PRACTICE (IPIP)

Small primary-care practices in America face several daunting challenges.  These practices typically have fewer resources at their disposal; which would allow for implementation of the latest and best quality-improvement techniques and protocols. Improving Performance In Practice (IPIP) is a national program whose focus is to introduce a formalized systems approach to Quality Improvement in the primary care setting.

IPIP is aimed at transforming the way in which health care is delivered by giving physicians the tools, systems, ans support they need to provide consistently high quality care to all patients all the time.   IPIP will provide in-office assistance to practices to improve quality of care, efficiency and satisfaction for both patients and the health care team.

Federal incentives to primary care practices using certified electronic health records (EHR) begin in 2011. AHEC is one of 60 federally-designated "Regional Extension Centers (RECs)" funded by the US Dept of Health and Human Services' Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology to help primary care providers select, implement and use EHRs to improve quality and safety of clinical care.
