Performance Improvement

Small primary-care practices in America face several daunting challenges. These practices typically have fewer resources at their disposal, which would allow for implementation of the latest and best quality-improvement techniques and protocols.  Performance Improvement (PI) is a national program whose focus is to introduce a formalized systems approach to Quality Improvement in the primary care setting.

PI is aimed at transforming the way in which health care is delivered by giving physicians the tools, systems, and support they need to provide consistently high quality care to all patients all the time.  PI will provide in-office assistance to practices to improve quality of care, efficiency and satisfaction for both patients and the healthcare team.

Regional Extension Center (REC)

Federal incentives to primary care practices using certified electronic health records (EHR) began in 2011.  AHEC is one of 60 federally-designated Regional Extension Centers (RECs) funded by the US Dept of Health and Human Services’ Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology to help primary care providers select, implement and use EHRs to improve quality and safety of clinical care.
